While some of the state's top football recruits were signing with big schools on Wednesday, Madison Central's Maurice Bennett just stood by and watched.
"I'm very excited. I was going to Washington State at first then the coaching staff there got fired and they're at Cal now so they called me and picked me back up so I'm going to Cal now," Maurice Bennett said. The Cal staff made him feel wanted. he wont forget them going to bat for him and plans on making it up to them when Cal plays Washington State on October 13th. "the new coaching staff called and said they don't need me anymore but that's where I was planning on going but as of now I'm not so there's gonna be a chip when we play them," Bennett said. Before cal came calling Maurice thought a childhood dream might come true. "Yeah I wanted to stay here I always wanted to be a Rebel with my brother but I think everything works out for the best," Bennett said. Bennett has never been to the golden state, but he trusts the man that recruited and cant wait to get to Cal. "The coach over there at Cal Coach Todd Howard, we have a real great relationship and I think we are going to pick up where we left off," Bennett said. And the golden bears have big plans for Bennett. They said you know, I'll come in and have some playing time immediately and we'll just go from there," Bennett said.
