The question was not if the No. 27 ranked Golden Eagles would be included, it was simply a matter of where the NCAA selection committee would send the Conference USA Champions.

“Obviously we are excited to play in our eighth straight regional,” head coach Scott Berry said. “The Auburn Regional should be a good fit for us and our fans. We know it will be a challenging regional but once you make it to this point they are all challenging.”

The team gathered inside the Rogers, Thames and Welch Baseball Center to watch the selection show, which was televised live on ESPN, and erupted as their name popped up for the eighth consecutive year. This season the Golden Eagles will head to the Plains in Auburn as the No. 3 seed.

The Golden Eagles will play the No. 2 seed Clemson (38-21) on Friday at 2:00 p.m. to open the tournament. Auburn (40-19), as the No. 1 seed will face the No. 4 seed Jacksonville State (32-24) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

The 2010 NCAA Auburn Regional will mark the eighth consecutive trip to the NCAA postseason for Southern Miss and its 11th overall. The regional appearance streak by the Golden Eagles is currently the tenth longest streak in the nation.

Southern Miss and Clemson have never faced on the diamond but the Golden Eagles have faced Auburn three times, the last in 1997, and Jacksonville State, once in the 2006 season.

Ticket request for the regional will begin tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. in person at the Pat Ferlise center or over the phone at 1.800.844.TICK. At this time the Southern Miss ticket office only has tickets available for the Southern Miss sessions, which are $15 per ticket. All seats at Plainsman Park are chair backs.

All session tickets are available at auburntigers.com by putting Southern Miss in the comment session.
