State activities associations in Texas, Arizona, and Alabama have suspended competitions because of concern about the spread of swine flu within their states. However, at this point in time, the Mississippi High School Activities Association plans to continue with all competitions as scheduled.

Ennis Proctor, MHSAA Executive Director, stated, “We will do everything necessary to protect the health and safety of our students. However, at this point in time there have been no identified cases of swine flu in Mississippi. We at the MHSAA want to use common sense in approaching this issue. We will work closely with the Mississippi Department of Education and the Mississippi Department of Health to plan for any issue that might arise in our state. We encourage our students to continue to use healthy hygiene practices, such as washing their hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home if they have any signs of illness.”

The Mississippi High School Activities Association will notify schools and the media should there be any need to reschedule activities in the future.
