The down economy continues to take a toll on everybody. Yesterday, more than 100 people were laid-off at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. But, many people say the health industry is still "recession-proof." A Belhaven University spokesperson tells us they see more and more people sign up for their nursing program.
"People are always getting hurt and need long-term care needs coming up that are larger than they were,” recalls Claire Langley.
The down economy is forcing many to go back to school.
"It’s real hard at times, but I just pray the Lord helps us out," expresses a Belhaven University student.
After spending four years in the Navy, Otis Watson decided to get a degree in Business Administration.
"These days you have to have a degree to succeed like I want to," explains Watson.
He’s optimistic the job market will rebound by the time he graduates next year.
"I know the department I want to go into at the V.A. Hospital there's always job openings and room for advancement," continues Watson.
Arthur Park also decided to get a second degree.
"The position I’m in now I’ve topped out and reached my max and there's no room for growth," Park tells News Channel 12.
He’s changing careers from Business Administration to Accounting.
"I hope to get with an accounting firm, maybe doing auditing or business consultant," adds Park.
