Thousands are expected to gather on the south side of the Capitol Tuesday to witness the inauguration of Governor Phil Bryant. With that many people in the city, area businesses can expect a lot of cash to be up for grabs. We visited the Jackson Hilton Garden Inn - a hotel that's expecting a business boost because of the inauguration.
There's no such thing as a bad day at the hotel.
"Tuesdays are typically a great day for business," says the hotel's General Manager, Marlene Macaluso. "We have strong occupancy every Tuesday and Wednesday."
Macaluso tells us that since the hotel opened two years ago at the site of the old King Edward, its 186 rooms are typically sold out.
"This hotel was closed for four decades. So much support from the community about the resurgence of downtown and about the opening of the King Edward Hotel. We get a lot of community support for which we are very grateful," she says.
Next Tuesday, people will come from far and wide to witness the inauguration of Governor Phil Bryant. Many will stay at the Hilton Garden Inn.
"We are sold out!" says Macaluso. "Great dignitaries coming in, certainly very notable personalities. We will be staffed and ready."
The hotel's restaurant and King Edward Bar will also be open for business following the inauguration. As for the inaugural parade...
"It's my understanding that we are not indeed affected by the parade closures," says Macaluso, "but certainly traffic is always a concern when you have high-profile people in town.
And the Hilton Garden Inn is thankful for the business brought on by Governor Bryant's big day.
