A Vicksburg nurse is killed after an alleged drunk driver runs a red light. We’ve confirmed 62-year-old Julius Hebron is out on a 200-thousand dollar bond. He is charged with aggravated D.U.I. causing death. The officer reported that Hebron had physical signs of being under the influence. Investigators tell us results from a blood test will not be available for a few weeks.
The victim is 34-year-old Shelly Guider. She was a registered nurse at River Region Medical Center. The deadly crash happened Monday morning at the intersection of Halls Ferry Road and North Frontage Road.
"Every life she touched here are devastated," expresses a co-worker.
Karin Jones says a couple of months ago Shelly was transferred to the I.C.U. department.
"She was everything a nurse should be," recalls Jones.
Jones says Shelly was loved by everyone.
"She cared about her patients. She held their hands. She was always a positive, kind, caring, wonderful person," explains Jones.
Shelly’s father-in-law tells us, he was shocked that something like this could happen to his family.
"It pains me, it really does," adds Warren Guider.
Guider says Shelly’s car was t-boned and she died instantly.
"She was a little bity thing. Every bone in her body was broken," continues Guider.
He’s hoping the community will learn from this tragedy, and people will start being more careful when getting behind the wheel.
"I see people have total disregard for red lights. It means come to a damn stop," exclaims Guider.
In honor of Shelly, River Region Medical Center plans to nominate her for Clinical Practice Nurse-of-the-Year.
Shelly leaves behind a husband and two step-sons. Funeral service for her will be Thursday at noon at St. Michael Catholic Church in Vicksburg.
