Some Rankin County parents are concerned that students in that district aren't getting textbooks to take home to study. They contacted us for some answers.
The Rankin County School District tells us there are other teaching tools besides textbooks.
"As far back as I can remember, we didn't have the right amount of books at our schools,” recalls an junior at Florence High School.
Chandler Sultan says not being able to take home school textbooks is a huge disadvantage, especially when teachers still assign homework in those classes.
"Luckily, for me, I have a computer. But, there's some kids that don't have that," explains Sultan.
Twelfth grader Jordan Allred says he has six classes. And, he doesn't have one school book to take home.
"They can't assign as much homework, so it's not as much pressure on me," comments Allred.
But, sometimes he has to put in extra hours to make up for not having any books.
"You have to go in earlier before school or stay later after school," adds Allred.
The Rankin County School District says K-12 textbooks that were requested by the individual schools have been purchased.
Administrators say U.S. History and Biology I books were purchased for all eight high schools and are available online for home use.
Students who don't have home internet access are allowed to check-out a textbook.
