Candidates running for Mississippi attorney general squared off Monday in a political forum.
Democratic incumbent Jim Hood is seeking his third term as the state's top lawyer.
Hood touted his 8 years in office fighting child predators and protecting consumers from fraud.
Hood’s republican opponent is Steve Simpson, the former head of the state department of public safety.
Simpson has also served as a circuit court judge on the gulf coast.
Speaking to member of the Capitol press corps in Jackson, Hood refused to agree to a series of debates around the state with Simpson.
"I'll do them anywhere, anytime I think Mississippi deserves to interview their next lawyer," Simpson said.
Hood said, "In the words of John McCain I’m not gonna get in a fight with a pig because you get all muddy and he likes it."
Simpson also attacked Hood for his refusal to file suit against the federal health care reform law, which opponents call Obamacare.
As for those controversial initiatives on the ballot, both men say they support the personhood amendment.
But they disagree on voter I-D. While Simpson favors it, Hood argues it may be unnecessary since there's very little actual voter fraud at the ballot box.
