Shortly before midnight Friday, the Sheriff's Department recieved a call about a shooting in the eastern part of Yazoo County. Deputies were flagged down by a vehicle where they found Earl Riptoe, 43 from Jackson, in the backseat, shot. EMS was dispatched and Riptoe was pronounced dead by paramedics. The coronor arrived shortly after midnight and the body was transported to the state medical examiners officer for autopsy.
The sheriff reports that several people are in custody, that it is still early in the investigation, and there could be more arrests in the future.
