Jackson-Tyrone Lewis is the 1st African-American Sheriff.
Lewis was sworn in this morning at the Hinds County Courthouse. He will officially take office on New Year's Day. Lewis has spent nearly 20 years in law enforcement. At one point, he served as Acting Chief for the Jackson Police Department.
Lewis replaces outgoing Sheriff Malcolm McMillin. McMillin has been in office for 20 years.
