Christmas definitely came early for a local restaurant. Miller's Grill Downtown was set to close its doors for good today. But, it is now officially staying open.
The restaurant's owner, Mark Miller, tells us he once had three locations in the metro area since its grand opening 14 years ago. The downtown location on Capitol Street opened in 2004. Today, new management signed a deal with the owner.
"A lot of people I haven't seen in years have come down to see me," recalls Miller.
It has been an emotional week for the owner of Miller's Grill Downtown.
"We decided to close a couple of weeks ago and told customers on Monday," explains Miller.
But, thanks to Pruitt Group, their doors will remain open.
“The guys taking over will keep most of the staff. They’re going to try and work on opening at night and weekends. The menu will be much of the same, but they'll be tweaking it as well," Miller tells News Channel 12.
And, they plan to renovate the restaurant.
"I’m really excited because I wanted to do that myself but I couldn't afford it," expresses Miller.
Miller says he never wanted to close. The down economy just took a toll on his bottom-line.
"I feel this can be one of the best restaurants in downtown Jackson with a little help," adds Miller.
But, this week, with the threat of closing, his business has picked up tremendously.
Miller says he also hopes to open a restaurant up around the reservoir area in Rankin County.
