Vicksburg police finally get a break in a two-month old rape case. Tonight, two cousins are behind bars, facing charges for brutally attacking a disabled woman.
Right now, 20-year-old Charles Harris and 28-year-old Eddie harries are charged with burglary. Eddie Harris also faces rape charges.
They’re accused of breaking into the woman's home on Drummond Street and beating and raping her; then, stealing some of her property.
"We have a community that's very concerned," comments the Vicksburg Police Chief.
Walter Armstrong is letting everyone know that these types of crimes will not be tolerated in the city of Vicksburg.
"We immediately went out and started canvassing the area knocking on doors asking for any information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators," recalls Armstrong.
Last week, the reward was increased from 38-hundred dollars to 52-hundred. A tip from Crime Stoppers helped put Eddie and Charles Harris behind bars.
"We still have a ways to go and we don't want to say or do anything to jeopardize the outcome of this case," continues Armstrong.
John Parson lives on the street where the October incident happened. He says he's thankful that his neighbor will have peace of mind knowing that these two men are off the streets.
"If these are the right two men, I figure justice is served as long as they get the right sentence and never be able to see daylight again," adds Parson.
Investigators are also asking for the public's help in recovering a 32-inch television that was stolen that night.
Eddie and Charles Harris will have their first court appearance tomorrow morning at the Vicksburg Municipal Courtroom.
