The Yazoo County man accused of severely neglecting his horses is out of jail. Authorities say Alvin Ross, who faces animal cruelty charges, was released Friday afternoon after he turned himself in. He’s out on a property bond.
"It’s sad. it frustrates me so much," expresses the woman who helped rescue the animals.
Cannon Williams says she wants justice for the 20 horses and mules that were neglected and malnourished. Some were found dead.
"These animals can't speak for themselves, and they're starving and they need help," comments Williams.
Williams is the city clerk of Bentonia. She says her office has received numerous phone calls about these animals since last spring.
"I offered please I will take these animals. He said no he had people who wanted them. I can't imagine anybody wanting the animals in the shape they are in," recalls Williams.
Ross reportedly turned over the animals to the Jackson Animal Rescue League. But, Williams says he has not done so.
"Do you think he'll take care of them? He hasn't yet. So take care of them now," asks Williams.
And, the Yazoo County Sheriff's Office has not issued a seizure warrant to remove the animals. We tried asking the chief investigator why a warrant to seize the animals hasn't been signed. We are still waiting to hear back from him.
Williams tells us she has had several people making donations to help the animals. You can make a donation at the Mississippi Ag and Farrier Supply in Flora. Their phone number is (601) 879-3343.
