We have new information on a deadly hit and run in Jackson. One of the suspects has his charge officially upgraded to Capital Murder. Also, the sister of the victim talks publicly for the first time about her brother’s senseless death.
Deryl Dedmon, 19, was in Jackson Municipal Court this morning for his initial appearance on the new charge. He was previously charged with Murder, but Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith says he has new evidence that shows the victim was robbed before he was killed. That makes this a capital case.
James Anderson, 49, was killed on June 26 outside Metro Inn on Ellis Avenue. Surveillance video shows part of what happened. Police say you can see Dedmon and his friend John Rice, 18, in the video. Anderson was beaten before being run over and killed.
In court for this morning’s hearing was Anderson’s sister. The family has not talked to the media about his death, until today. Hear what she has to say about Dedmon, and the others that she believes are involved, today on News Channel 12 at Noon.
