Mississippi River Could See Major Flooding

»  Comments | Post a Comment

All eyes are on the Mississippi River that's expected to soon crest to its highest in 74 years.

The river at Vicksburg on Monday was at a record 39 feet.

Experts says it’s expected to crest above flood stage of more than 52 feet within the next few weeks.

That’s the highest the river has been since 1937.

Officials say the river levels have been rising because of the heavy rains to the north.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace is urging residents of low lying neighborhoods prone to flooding to move to higher ground as soon as possible.

Pace tells us his deputies are ready to patrol high water areas in boats to protect property and help anyone who may be stranded.
