JACKSON, MS (August 16, 2010) – A card from home, a note from the field: the purpose envisioned for a donation being received Tuesday morning by The MS National Guard Family Program, Office of the Adjutant General.
At 8:30 am, a military van will be loaded with stationery items at The Salvation Army of Greater Jackson’s 110 Presto Lane warehouse. Sergeant Alfredia Moody will oversee reception of the donation on behalf of the Guard.
The gift of Hallmark products is one more way The Salvation Army continues to show support for men and women in the military. “Historically, The Salvation Army has served our forces both home and abroad.
From doughnuts and coffee on the front lines of WWI, to helping form the USO, we have ministered to the needs of our military in numerous ways,” commented Captain Ken Chapman, area coordinator for The Salvation Army of Greater Jackson.
“Letters between soldiers and their families mean so much. At a time when many of our Mississippi Guard are deployed, this is a small way of thanking these families who are sacrificing for us.”
The variety, from blank notes to wrapping paper, will be used by the family support branch of the MS National Guard for deployed and returning soldiers and their families.
Many of these items will be given as gifts during Yellow Ribbon events occurring over the next few months.
The Salvation Army has thanked the Hallmark Corporation for their generosity in allowing them to share this donation with other organizations, such as the MS National Guard, who will use them to bring comfort and hope to people who need it most.
