OXFORD, Miss. (AP) - Records show a man accused in last Friday's
fatal standoff in Oxford was committed for treatment of mental
illness just weeks earlier.
The Oxford Eagle reported Tuesday that 24-year-old Bilethon
Autry was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center on Aug. 31
after a chancery judge issued a writ of lunacy - a document to have
him committed.
Autry was sent to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Patient records are private, and it's unclear when he was
discharged.
Autry is charged with capital murder in the shooting death of
his brother, 50-year-old Charles Ray Hodges. Police say Autry also
held his father hostage Friday during an armed standoff with law
enforcement officers in the upscale Grand Oaks subdivision.
Autry is being held without bond in the Lafayette County jail.
