Sharkey County authorities are looking for a killer tonight behind the brutal murders of a 31-year-old woman and her 3-year-old daughter.
The coroner says preliminary findings show Karitha Carroll was stabbed and cut in the chest and someone slashed little Jamiaha's throat.
Their bodes were found in a bedroom at their home Wednesday afternoon.
"I'm just shocked, devastated, I can't get over it," said Yulonda Knight, who was Carroll's shift leader at the "Double Quick" in Rolling Forks. But she says Carroll was more than a co-worker.
"She's just like a sister to me," said Knight. "If I needed a way to work, she'd come pick me up. If I needed a way home, she'd bring me home."
When they didn't work together Knight would call Carroll.
"I call her Wednesday two times, I called her on the house phone, I text her and she didn't text back. I told my son something ain't right," said Carroll.
That's when Knight found out Carroll and her daughter were killed in their home.
"I'm weak right now cause that's my friend," said Knight.
The sheriff's department is working with M.B.I. on the case.
Forensic specialists from the coast were assigned to come in and do blood splatter tests.
"I always told her every night Karitha lock your door," said Knight. "I mean you don't know who gonna walk in and be waiting on you."
