JSU Takes Aim At Domestic Violence

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Do whatever you have to do to defend yourself, that's what expert Joe Graham teaches women who take his self defense classes.
“That means eye gouging knee, kicking.”
Role playing with a group of his own students, Graham demonstrated to a group women at Jackson State University Wednesday how to use their hands and feet to prevent an attack from
a husband, boyfriend or even a stranger.
“Because no one has the right to put their hands on you,” says Graham, who is a Tae Kwon Do instructor
Many came away from the seminar feeling empowered.
“I will know what to do now when the situation occurs,” said one student.
Another added, “In case somebody does approach me I can make sure they don't bother me or hurt me.”
Wherever he goes Graham carries a copy of an obituary from his aunt's funeral, she died at the hands of her abusive husband ten years ago.
“He beat her to death basically.”
Now Graham wants to prevent another death, so he teaches potential victims how to fight back and stay alive.
Graham was on campus to take part in JSU’s week-long activities highlighting awareness of domestic violence.
