The head of the Teamsters Union releases a statement saying First Student bus drivers in Hinds County will go on strike Thursday morning at 4. The bus drivers met Wednesday at noon. Shortly after the meeting, the strike was announced. According to the Union President, "A strike is not what we want, but we are being forced to do this by First Student and Hinds County School Board." The drivers are in dispute over wage and benefit increases. Drivers we've talked with say they just want to be treated fairly. The Teamsters will not strike in Clay, Madison, and Yazoo counties at this time. The Hinds County School District held a press conference Wednesday at 3 p.m. where district leaders announced a tentativley scheduled list of pick up and delivery points for bus service. They also said families are encouraged to make alternative plans to transport their children to school for Thursday morning.
