Investigators are looking for a dark-colored SUV that may have been involved in a deadly crash that killed two Tougaloo College students. Police say the three young women, two of them cheerleaders, were in a small Chevrolet that hit a Chevy Tahoe.
The two who were killed, died on the scene. The third was taken to University Medical Center. Authorities aren't releasing the victims' names.
35-year-old Keith Haralson was driving the Tahoe the girls hit. He was conscious and talking when paramedics took him to U.M.C. Police say alcohol was not involved.
Witness tell police a dark-colored SUV veered into the Chevrolet's lane, forcing the women to head towards oncoming traffic.
The crash happened around 3:00 pm on Friday at the corner of State Street and College Drive.
Some fresh flowers have been placed near the crash site.
Sophronia Cosy, who lives down the street, says it sounded like a transformer exploded. She describes what she saw as horrific.
"Why didn't the guy who caused the accident stop?" she said. "Why didn't he stop if he was speeding?"
Cosy, who has a daughter and a granddaughter, says she feels for the victims' families.
"My sympathies go out to those parents because I know how they feel," she said.
Tougaloo College's president visited the crash site. The college has not released a statement.
