Brookhaven Parade

»  Comments | Post a Comment

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - Three long-standing fixtures in Brookhaven's Christmas parade - horses, all-terrain vehicles and fire truck sirens - have been dropped. The Christmas parade is Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. in downtown Brookhaven. Christmas Parade Chairman Rita Rich tells the Daily Leader in Brookhaven that the change on the horses and ATVs is based on liability issues. Officials say there have also been complaints in the past not only from concerned parents who are worried about their children on the ground near the horses but also from local business owners concerned about the lingering smell. The Lincoln County Fire Association voted last week to silence the sirens in the parade, citing the fact that it's hard for children to enjoy the parade with their fingers in their ears.
