A Warren County grand jury wants the county Board of Supervisors to improve communications for deputies and police officers.
Jurors say there are just too many "dead zones" in the current system.
The grand jury filed a recommendation with the county Board of Supervisors advising Warren County leaders to build a new radio tower.
Vicksburg leaders tell us they currently have three radio towers that are designated for law enforcement communications.
We're told a new tower would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The Warren County Sheriff says his department is trying to work around the "dead zones" to keep the community safe.
"When officers understand where those areas are, they are aware they are going into an area where communication may be a problem," said Sheriff Martin Pace. "The sergeant and other officers are already into route to offer assistance."
One member of the grand jury tells us the Board of Supervisors won't likely make a decision about a new radio tower until next summer, as they get the budget ready for the new fiscal year.
