Mayor Melton Reacts to Committee's Decision

»  Comments | Post a Comment

“For the last 18 years this is exactly where I've lived.”
Frank Melton says it’s absurd to suggest the mayor of Jackson doesn't live in the city of Jackson.
"The homestead exemption is here in Jackson it's not in Texas I talked with my wife a few hours ago and she says he hasn't filed anything," he says.
Melton says the same committee certified his candidacy four years ago when questions were first raised about his legal residency.
He says he has lived in his home at 2 Carter's Grove for the past 18 years, which has been a refuge for needy children.
“We've raised 70 kids through this house I mean this is where I live, this is one of my homes.”
Melton says politics is behind the committee's decision. He pointed a finger directly at U.S. Congressman Bennie Thompson.
The congressman has four people in this race and he's not gonna run the city of Jackson the people are, not one congressman,” he said.
