Almost 50 people have been arrested in what authorities call one of the largest drug ring busts in Mississippi history.
Tuesday investigators announced a federal indictment against 18 people on drug distribution charges.
Another 30 people arrested will face state charges.
Agents tell us the investigation started a year and a half ago when Rankin County deputies started seizing small amounts of drugs during routine traffic stops.
In Hinds County, authorities confiscated 27 pounds of methamphetamine worth $1 million.
The man accused of being at the center of the meth ring in Rankin County is James Wesley Walker.
Walker lives just outside the city of Florence. That came as a big surprise to residents of Florence.
“That's kind of bad. I live outside of Florence. It’s getting close to home,” said Harvey Cockrell.
“I am shocked I can't imagine something happening in a small town such as this everybody knows everybody and everybody knows what's going on,” says Mickey McWilliams.
