Jackson Schools Monitered

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Mississippi Department of Education officials are monitoring Jackson Public Schools' board meetings in response to numerous complaints. Martez Hill, chief deputy state superintendent of policy and operations, says the complaints come from school employees and those in the community. Hill says they range from the way board meetings are conducted to the board "micromanaging the day-to-day affairs of the district." The meetings in the state's second largest school district are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. and sometimes continue on past midnight. And the board sometimes stays in closed session for hours. Hill has been monitoring the meetings since October.
