For many Mississippians struggling to find a job in education....the search may have ended.
That's because Jackson Public Schools held their annual job fair Saturday at Murrah High School.
They're looking to fill several positions from teachers to counselors.
There are also openings for non-certified positions like bus drivers, cafeteria and maintenance workers.
The Director of Teacher Recruitment tells us more than 600 applicants came out to the job fair.
Katheryn Stitt was one of them.
"This is kind of like speed dating," said Stitt. "It's kind of nerve-racking because I didn't realize it's such a competitive market."
Even though she has her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education--she says the market is still tough.
"Rankin County actually has a freeze on hiring," said Stitt. "You're sitting down and interviewing with the principal, but you realize there's actually not a position available."
For now, Stitt will continue to apply and hope for the best.
"I just realize things are going to go the way they're meant to go. That doors open when they're meant to."
