Our Pre-Kindergarten class was so happy when America’s First Lady Michelle Obama
chose to visit some of the schools in Jackson, Mississippi. This great city is known for
“The Best in the New South” where people love to eat soul food with a hardy
appetite.
We are committed to transitioning from old eating habits to a new and fresh way of
eating healthier foods. Mrs. Obama, we are up to the challenge with our administrated
staff, parents, teachers and especially our cafeteria staff in our school. Each day we pledge to make this promise to “Let’s Get Moving Mississippi”.
My health is important to my family and me.
I am responsible for my own health.
To be physically active at least 30 minutes a day.
To limit my sugar intake.
Ask my friends, family, and teachers to support me.
I am dedicated to make a concise choice each day for a healthier lifestyle
To strengthen my body, mind, and emotions.
To help encourage and motivate students to get involved in choosing a healthier lifestyle
each child will be asked to participate in this lesson called Food Pyramid Count Journal
activity: After lunch we will track how many fruits and vegetables served during breakfast and lunch. The teachers will chart on a graph to show where food will lie on the pyramid. This will help to control starch and sugar intakes.
Our Pre-K class would like to thank you Rachel Ray and WJTV, for your collaborated effort to help decrease childhood obesity here at John Hopkins Elementary School.
