Minnesota Timberwolves Forward and Prentiss native Al Jefferson will be on hand to help international hunger relief organization Feed The Children distribute 400 families with boxes of food and personal care items from 9 -11 a.m. on Saturday, August 1 at South Pleasant Hills Baptist Church (191 South Pleasant Hill Rd.) in Prentiss.

A current standout in the NBA, Al grew up in the small town of Prentiss, MS and wanted to help encourage and empower the young people in the community to work hard, and follow their dreams. Earlier in the week, Al hosted a three-day basketball camp free of charge to all attendees followed by a Family Fun Day with free entertainment and food.  “I have been so blessed in my life, and I wanted to give back to the community that raised me,” Al said.

South Pleasant Hills Baptist Church is a Feed The Children partner agency and has pre-identified the recipient families. Each family will receive one food box and one with personal care item. The boxes are designed to help supplement a family for up to one week.

“We know there are many people in Mississippi experiencing difficult situations right now,” said Larry Jones, founder and president of Feed The Children.  “Because of Al Jefferson’s commitment to his hometown, 400 families lives will be changed, and for that, I want to say a big ‘Thank you!’ on behalf of everyone he is helping in his community.”
