Montgomery claimed an early 4-0 lead against Mississippi Tuesday night and didn’t look back as 6,574 fans watched the Biscuits beat the Braves, 5-1.  Aneury Rodriguez dominated the Braves offense as the Biscuits evened the series at two games apiece.

Montgomery went to work in the top of the second inning.  Cody Cipriano singled and scored on Cody Strait’s single to get on the board, but the big blast came from Jose Lobaton.  With runners at the corners, Lobaton belted his first home run as a Biscuit over the left field wall.  The three-run shot gave Montgomery a 4-0 lead.

Mississippi got on the board in the sixth when Matt Young hit his third home run of the year.  The solo shot cut the lead to 4-1.  Montgomery wasted no time getting that run back.  Matt Fields drilled the first pitch he saw from Kevin Gunderson in the top of the seventh over the left-centerfield wall.

The M-Braves threatened, loading the bases in the eighth and ninth innings, but couldn’t put any more runs on the board.

Edgar Osuna gave up four runs on five hits over six innings and fell to 3-3 on the year.  Kevin Gunderson gave up a run in two innings of work and Deunte Heath tossed a scoreless ninth.

Aneury Rodriguez was outstanding for Montgomery.  He gave up a solo home run, but was nearly unhittable all night.  In all, he fanned six and scattered six hits while allowing one run through 6.2 innings to pick up his seventh W of 2009.  Paul Phillips threw 2.0 shutout innings in relief and Matthew Gorgen came on to retire the final batter of the game.

The Braves and Biscuits wrap up this five-game series and 10-game homestand Wednesday night at 7:05.  Ryne Reynoso takes the hill for the M-Braves against Montgomery’s Rayner Oliveros.

Wednesday, August 5th will be the final game of the 10-game homestand and the first 1,000 children through the gates will receive a free Roberto Clemente Educational Magazine. It will also be Kids Night at Trustmark Park when children 14 and under get field level seats for only $2 and Fun Zone wristbands for only $5.
