The Mississippi Sports Medicine All Star Girls and Boys Basketball Games will be played on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at the A. E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. The 45th annual girls game will tip-off at 1:00 PM while the 55th annual boys game will begin at approximately 3:00 PM. Longtime MAC supporter Mississippi Sports Medicine is sponsoring the game for the ninth consecutive year. Tickets are $5.00 per person for all ages and seating is general admission and good for both games.
The All-Star basketball weekend begins this year on Friday, July 10, 2009, at 6:30 PM as the All-Stars will be on hand at the A.E. Wood Coliseum at Mississippi College for an autograph session and the annual 3 point shooting and slam dunk competitions. Following an autograph session from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, the players will be introduced and then compete in three rounds each of 3 point shooting. The boys and girls winners will then shoot treys in a final round to determine the overall All-Star 3 point shooting champion. After the 3 point shooting, the boys squads will compete in three rounds of a slam dunk competition featuring celebrity judges. Special prizes for fans will be given away between events.
Both of Saturday’s contests feature the North/South format. The North girls won last year’s game 96-76 for the squad’s fifth consecutive win and the North leads the overall series 24-20. In 2008, the North boys beat the South 103-97 for their second straight win, however the South still leads the overall boys series 33-21. Rosters for both teams now feature rising seniors.
The North girls will be coached by Cassie Farris of Biggersville and Jason Thompson of H. W. Byers. The North boys will be guided by Greg Carter of Starkville and Leroy Cotton of East Side. The South girls’ coaches are Shay Jackson of Raymond and Tim Bryant of Ocean Springs while the South boys are led by Ronald Norman of Wayne County and Crandal Porter of Newton. Rosters for all four teams are included with this release. For more information, contact the MAC at (601) 924-3020 or http://www.mscoaches.com.
