Pernell McPhee and the Mississippi State defense gave Florida all they could handle. McPhee finished with 4 takles, including 1.5 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. Despite the effort the Gators Left Davis Wade Stadium with a 29-19 victory.

“That’s just a learning leson, a learning experience that we’re gonna face throughout this season and on and on and we’re trying to rebuild a program. I think we’re doing a nice job rebuilding by playing hard, fighting all four quarters against top teams who are gonaa compete for national championships,“ said McPhee.

The Bulldogs also played exceptionally well in red zone defense. The Bulldogs help the Gators to just one touchdown and two field goals before the break and picked off Tim Tebow for a touchdown right before halftime.

“It came from watching film. We watched a lot of film. We know what they like to do in the redzone. We know they like to get Tebow teh ball on most plays so most likely we teamed up on Tebow and sent the ends on the inside and had linebackers covering the outside and we just went after them,“ said McPhee.

A record crowd of 57,178 attended the game, majority wearing maroon and white, hoping their Bulldogs would upset the Gators.

“All of us wanted to win. This game was a real emotional game. You all saw the emotion out there on the field. Everybody fighting till the end, everybody pushing and shoving. We seem like underdogs but we don’t play like underdogs,“ said McPhee.
