The Coach’s Wife Perspective: Megan Mullen Interview

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Dan Mullen is a first year Head Football Coach for Mississippi State and he has fans thinking big things are to come for the program. On Saturday, 57,178 fans packed Davis Wade Stadium to cheer on the Bulldogs against then #2 Florida. The largest crowd to attend a Mississippi State football game was on hand to support Coach Mullen and his Bulldogs, and you can bet his biggest fan is his wife Megan.

So who is the woman behind “Dan the Man?“ Would you believe Megan is a former sports anchor/reporter, so she definitely knows her sports and football.

“The team’s playing a 100 times better than I’ve ever would’ve imagined and I’ve never been a part of a team where each kid has played every single play. I’ve never been a part of it and we’ve won two national titles from the place we were before here and I’ve never seen kids play this hard. Its the coolest thing in the world. It’s the best. It’s a tribute to Dan , it’s a tribute to them believing in him and vice versa, its the best thing in the world to be a part of it—i cant even tell you,“ said Mrs. Mullen.

When Dan was Offensive Coordinator at Florida, his star pupil, Tim Tebow was more like a son. With that being said, who was Mrs. Mullen rooting for on Saturday? Would she cheer for Tim when Florida was on offense or was it Maroon and White the whole way?

“I can’t believe you would have to ask such a question that’s crazy. I am a Mississippi State Bulldog through and through. These are the best kids I’ve ever been around in my entire life. I don’t want anything more for this team than for them to win. There’s nothing greater than being a Mississippi State Bulldog right now. I’m more proud than I’ve ever been of anything in my entire life. I really am,” said Mrs. Mullen.

Mrs. Mullen is passionate about her bulldogs and during the game she says she is on the edge of her seat. So what’s it like for a coach’s wife during a game.

“Absolutely trust me. Its the hardest thing in the entire world to sit back and watch but when you have so much faith in the players and your husband and everybody that’s a part of it,“ said Mrs. Mullen.

No one knows a head coach better than the coach’s wife. Therefore, no one knows Dan Mullen better than Megan, so what’s Dan like after win; what’s he like after a loss?

“He’s the same either way, he’s still a sweet husband - he probably feels like he has to console me as I have to console him I wish I could tell you he was one way or something different. There’s not. He’s great either way and the thing is with these close losses we’ve had in these very winnable games. He’s still so proud of these kids because he said you know what they’ve played every play. I’ve asked them to play as hard as they possibly could and leave it on the field and they do every time—you know—-we’re this close,“ said Mrs. Mullen
