Woman Shot 5 Times, Man Kills Himself In Claiborne Co.

A man is dead and a woman hurt after a shooting in Claiborne County Thursday evening. The Claiborne County Sheriff tells News Channel 12 that Roderick Thompson, 25, shot his girlfriend Meokia Johnson, 21, five times before he shot and killed himself. The shooting happened in a home on Rodney Road just west of Port Gibson. News Channel 12 is working on this story. We’ll have more tonight after basketball.

Investigators say Johnson has gunshot wounds to her chest, legs and hip. She was airlifted to UMC in Jackson. At this point there’s no word on her condition.

The coroner says Thompson shot himself in the chest. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Investigators say Thompson shot Johnson during an altercation. They say Johnson was able to call her mother for help as this was going on. When the mother arrived the mother had a seizure. She has been unable to talk to investigators about what happened.
