Search For Leads Continues In Sharkey Co. Double Murder
Published: November 4, 2009
Sharkey County investigators continue to work to solve the double murder of a woman and her young daughter. Now investigators and the mother’s employer are offering rewards for information leading to an arrest. Both Crimestoppers and the Double Quick are offering up to $1,000 each for information leading to an arrest in the murders of Karitha Carroll and her daughter Jamaya, 3. They were found murdered in September in their home in Carey. Deputies say Karitha was stabbed several times in the chest and the little girl’s throat was slashed.
Deputies say Robert Lee King is a suspect in the murders and is still on the loose. Some witnesses think they saw King in Sharkey County around the time of the murders. He’s also wanted in connection with a 2005 murder in Memphis.
The Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department has joined forces with the MBI and recently the FBI on the case. The sheriff tells News Channel 12 his department is waiting for the State Crime Lab to process DNA evidence that may lead them to a suspect.
