A Durant man is dead after someone shot and killed him early Monday evening. Police say the shooting happened around 5:45 p.m. at the Family Dollar store in Durant in Holmes County. They found Rodmekus Kitchens, 29, dead outside the store behind the wheel of an older model Oldsmobile. Investigators say they are questioning several people, including at least two who have been taken into custody but not charged.
Police say the motive could be retaliation for a deadly nightclub shooting in August. Damien Anderson, 23, turned himself in a few days after the August shooting and was charged with murder. Witnesses say an argument lead to that deadly shooting. Police have not explained the exact connection of all of the men.

It’s a shame how crime is increasing in our small rural towns. Usually one could say I moved to the country to get away from so much crime. Not anymore because our young kids are so anxious to make their town a city so they go out and do silly things just because this is the way they do it in the city. That’s what their minds are telling them. They have created gangs in the country so they can do it like they do it in the so called city. Men wake up forget about the city and start respecting human life. Value your own life enough to not thow it away like that even if you are not the one to be killed your life is still over because you will spend the rest of it in prison. So stop the violence please. It’s senseless killing to argue over something so simple and get made enough to throw away your life and take someone else life. If you are in a gang why not encourage your sisters and brother to love one another and to take care of your community and the people in it. It may be a littlt small town but you can make it a beautiful place to call home by keeping it clean and showing love for your neighbors.
