Man In Custody For Shooting Off-Duty Madison Co. Sheriffs Deputy

Jeffery Ferguson, 40, is in the Leake County Jail facing aggravated assault charges for shooting an off-duty Madison County deputy. His bond is $100,000.
Leake County Sheriff Greg Waggoner says the shooting happened Thursday afternoon around 3 o’clock at the home of Bee and Carla Hudson on Red Dog Road west of Carthage. The sheriff said on Thursday dispatch got a call from Carla Hudson about a disturbance at their home. The sheriff said Ferguson was also at the home. He said the Hudsons had been separated for about a year, but there were getting back together. During the separation Carla Hudson dated Ferguson. Deputies arrived at the home about the same time Bee Hudson did. The sheriff says Ferguson left without incident.
About 20 minutes later there was a 911 call that Bee Hudson had been shot. Deputies recovered a rifle in a wooded area across from the home which he believes Ferguson used, but Ferguson was not at there. He said then Ferguson called a friend with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and said he would turn himself in to the friend. Ferguson surrendered to authorities at the Hudson’s home.
Bee Hudson went to UMC with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The sheriff says he had surgery Thursday night and is now stable and alert.
