Jury selection continues Tuesday morning in the capital double murder trial of former teacher Carla Hughes. That process began Tuesday morning in Canton. Tuesday the judge and attorneys for both sides are expected to question the 94 remaining potential jurors. That number is down from the 169 people who showed up Monday. The Madison County Court had summoned 500 people for jury duty in this case.
Hughes is charged with the murder of Avis Banks and her unborn son. Banks was found dead in the garage of her Ridgeland home in November 2006. She was shot five times and also stabbed. The jury selection process is expected to take several days. District Attorney for Madison and Rankin counties Michael Guest says he does not expect to begin opening statements at least until Thursday or Friday.
