Coastal areas of Mississippi are now under a tropical storm warning after Ida lost strength on its way to a landfall sometime early Tuesday. Hurricane warnings were dropped along the Gulf Coast and replaced with tropical storm warnings that stretch from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle. On the three coastal counties, emergency officials were expecting some flooding in low-lying areas as the storm closed in on the Gulf Coast. In Jackson County, Emergency Management Director Donald Langham says his biggest concern is flooding in the low-lying areas of the county. He says flooding on the scale of Hurricane Ike last year. Residents of low-lying areas were advised Sunday to take precautions such as moving vehicles and securing property. The opening of some shelters would accompany any evacuations.
No evacuations have been ordered along the Mississippi Coast.
