What should they do? Should more tax breaks be given to new businesses? Why bribe people with tax breaks when revenue shortfalls are the problem? Besides Metrocenter is a mall, and Bills Greek Tavern is a great place for fish. if that’s too far to drive try Creshales on 80.
If the water pipes are 100 years old now, then they were 92 the last time Johnson was in office. He spent most of that time putting water pipes in on farish & high st. Great for Hotels, and daiquiri bars- not so good for residents.
If you wonder why people leave the city it’s cause it;s crumbling. The streets suck, and when they do pave them, they do they worst job imaginable. No collars for man holes, grinding down only half the road, and sporadic paving are just starts. Now we see the pipes are treated the same way. 100+ breaks means 100+ quick fixes. They’ll break again soon. And in ten years even less people living in jackson will actually pay taxes= more revenue shortfalls= more neglected city services= more flight= less tax base=... you see the point.
So how is the Gov. responsible for Jackson sucking? I guess the Gov. should fix the crime problem too.( Two Waffle Houses robbed in one night.) Crime is the reason there are few restaurants. It has driven money to other counties, and the eateries follow the money. So it’s the residents of jackson sowing these seeds- not the Gov.
First let me say, my remarks were not in regards to the Mayor,he just became the Mayor and has not had a chance to do very much, he also came into office with no money and nothing towork with. My comments were in regards to the govenor. He was well aware of the issues and did not do anything to correct it. The no shopping center, or restaurants or still statements in regards to the govenor. Jackson is the capitol city and nothing is been done to attract people to mississippi so that the capitol city can grow and become productive. I do volunteer, for the red cross, stew pot as well as other places in my personal life as well as at work. I am home early today visting the elderly to make sure they have clean drinking water and yes it is coming out of my pocket. We are all prounf and want to give a big thank you to our surrounding cites near and far as well as MEMA. The bottom line is, why wait for a disaster that could have been prevented 20 years ago. This is not a complaint, this is an ey opener for the state of Mississippi. Thank you for your response, I was looking and speaking on and about the entire picture not just the frame.
Personally I believe the Mayor is doing a great job under the circumstances. He is willing to talk to the media advising residents regarding the progress that is being made everyday.
Also…A big thank you to the good neighbor cities of Madison, Ridgeland, Hattiesburg and Greenville for sending crews to help the city of Jackson, and another thank you to MEMA for the distribution of water.
How in the world anyone can relate this to “no shopping Mall” and “no decent restaurant” is beyond me. Jeesh.
This is an emergency and Mayor Johnson is showing great leadership qualities.
Instead of complaining why don’t you take that time and use it to volunteer and help.
The news stated we have not seen this typr of issue since 1989. So for 20 years the city has known about the infrastructure was failing and yet nothing was done to repair it. What does that say about the city and it’s “leaders”.If this is a state of emergency, where is our help.Yes water was passed out today doing the hours people had to work, also what about our senior citizens who can not drive or have anyone to help them get water. Who can noteven use their own restrooms. To live in the “capitol” city with no shopping mall,no decent restaurant, and now no water. It is good to make nationla news but, why is it Jackson news is always the worst. Why would anyone want to even move here?? I live here, but my days here are numbered. Mississippi when the next election time comes around, let’s vote for someone who can repair this city and leave the “Good Ole Boy” voting in the pass…Do not just vote for a friendship, or I will help you if you help me. Vote for the best Man/Woman to get the job done because they care about the state and do not care who toes they have to step on to get the job done!!
