The renovation of Amite County High School is on hold for now while officials assess storm damage at nearby Liberty Elementary School. School board members declared a state of emergency at Liberty
Elementary during a special meeting last week. Superintendent Debbie Hopf says they decided to delay the $1.256 million high school renovation project until they know the extent of damage to Liberty Elementary. Liberty’s roof was damaged during a March 25 storm that closed the school for more than a week. A temporary roof has been put on and students have returned to class.
