JPD Investigates Shooting on Hollywood Ave.

Jackson police say Pierre Cooper was shot once in the back Tuesday evening. He’s listed in good condition at UMC.

Police say the shooting happened Tuesday night on the 3500 block of Hollywood Avenue in Jackson. Authorities say a motive is unclear, but it appears the shooting stemmed from an argument between two different groups of friends. One group member apparently wanted to fight the member of the other group. The two groups were on opposite sides of the street when gunfire erupted.

Asst. Police Chief Lee Vance says investigators found six shell cases at the crime scene. They also recovered a 9mm handgun. He says there’s no evidence to support a rumor that more than 20 shots were fired in the neighborhood that night.

Vance says very few witnesses have come forth. Police do not have a suspect in custody, but Vance says they are working on it.
