Jackson Caregiver Arrested

A Jackson caregiver has been arrested today following indictment on various charges including identity theft and exploitation against a vulnerable adult under her care, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.
Stephanie Fields, age 34, of 235 Fairbanks Street in Jackson, was arrested today by investigators with the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Attorney General’s Office following indictment by a Hinds County Grand Jury on one count of felonious identity theft, three counts felonious use of Social Security number to obtain goods, one count of attempted felonious use of Social Security number to obtain goods, three counts felonious exploitation of vulnerable adult, and one count attempted exploitation of vulnerable adult.
Fields is alleged to have used the identity of an elderly gentleman to whom she was providing care. She is also accused of obtaining several credit cards as well as obtaining credit to purchase a computer system.
“In all, she is charged with running up charges in excess of $6,700, and attempting to charge an additional $2,000, using the 90 year old victim’s name and Social Security number,“ said Attorney General Hood.
As with all cases, the charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case was investigated and will be prosecuted by the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Attorney General’s Office.
