LAUREL, Miss. (AP) - A Jones County man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of an elementary school teacher. Circuit Judge Billy J. Landrum sentenced Ricky Gavin on Wednesday. Gavin won’t be eligible for parole. The Hattiesburg American newspaper said he pleaded guilty to capital murder in the Nov. 23, 2008, slaying of Rebecca Pruitt, who worked at Mason Elementary School. Also charged in the case was Kenya Davis, who was sentenced to life in prison in August after pleading guilty to a murder charge. Investigators say Pruitt was knocked out, bound with tape and
stabbed at least 16 times after inviting Gavin and Davis into her home. The victim’s car was stolen, along with a television and $30.
