Suspicious Bag Near Women’s Clinic Causes Scare

Rooster’s restaurant sits directly across the street from the Jackson Women’s Health Organization, a clinic which performs abortions.
Manager Elizabeth Baine wasn’t sure if the suspicious package found so close to her business was harmless or a dangerous explosive.
“If the bomb had gone off the glass would have shattered and we could have been hurt,” he said.
So Baine and a half dozen employees quickly took cover behind the brick building.
“We figured with the whole building in front of us we were protected,” she said.
Meantime Rooster’s was shut down for more than two hours and losing money.
“People were calling in pick up orders and we had to tell them streets were blocked off and they couldn’t get here and that we were not open,” Baine said.
Biane has never had any problems from the clinic.
“Some of the nurses who work there are my customers.”
This is the only clinic in Mississippi that performs abortions. Over the years it has been the scene of protests by abortion opponents who want to see the clinic shut down.
Baine “I’m not for or against abortion. I just think people should have a option if that’s the path the choose.”
Police say there’s no indication Lawrence Wright intended his small bag to cause such a big fuss.
