South Jackson Neighborhood Keeps Police Busy

The neighborhood where 14 year old Peeples Middle 7th grader Martaz Hollins was murdered Thursday night on Cummings Street, on the very same south Jackson street, police officers spent Friday
morning searching for a suspected home burglar.
“We’re looking for people doing this, he looked suspicious,” said Officer Nathan Rushing.
Police canvassed the neighborhood for more than half an hour, but there no sign of the burglar.
Rushing says they did recover items they believe were stolen, including a chain saw, tool kits and a bicycle.
Moments later nearby Alta Woods Terrace was shut down, after a mail carrier discovered a grenade on the front lawn of a house.
Within a minute of examining the device, the police bomb squad determined the grenade was not dangerous.
Officer Loris Taylor said the object was inert… that’s often used for training.
All the excitement in the neighborhood was too much for one resident.
“I’ve been here 15 16 years nothing like that happens over here,” Reginald Givhan.
Back at the Martaz Hollins’ family home, as the holidays approach the grieving continues and there will be one less place at the table for the holiday meal.
