Some Hinds County School District Bus Drivers On Strike

Some Hinds County School District Bus Drivers On Strike
» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

Several Hinds County bus drivers are now standing on the picket line. Drivers walked off the job at 4:00 Thursday morning. Parents were urged to take their children to school and pick them up and be prepared to wait. Non-union bus drivers worked multiple routes to get children to school. The strike seemed to have very little effect on traffic. Most parents took school officials advice and dropped their children off early.

The fight between union school bus drivers and their employer First Student is getting really ugly. News Channel 12 has learned that Teamsters filed a formal complaint with the National Labor Board. News Channel 12 has obtained this copy of the complaint which claims First Student has discriminated against its employees because of their union and has refused to bargain in good faith with Teamsters Local 891. It also accuses First Student of threatening and coercing its employees with adverse action if they do not agree to its bargaining demands. We’re told a hearing will be held and will likely happen soon in light of the strike.
