Rankin County Gets Stimulus Money to Improve Roads

Oprah makes the big O-nnouncement that the Oprah Winfrey Show is coming to an end.The millions of dollars coming in to cover the road improvements costs is coming from the stimulus package. Rankin County is getting about 3-point-1 million dollars. The county plans to use the money to resurface 12 roads. the City of Pearl is also adding a new traffic signal. Flowood is adding a turning lane at Treetops Boulevard and Top Street. County officials selected the project based on the 2030 Jackson Metro Transportation Plan. The plan predicts which areas will have the highest population growth and which will need improvements in the coming years. “It’s probably going to improved the property value which is a great bonus two weeks after you buy a house here,“ said Clay McDonough who moved to Trickham Bridge Road two weeks ago. Trickham Bridge Road from highway 80 to City Limit Roads in Brandon will be repaved. Other roads in line for improvements are Old Highway 49 in Richland, Old Brandon Road in Pearl and Crossgates Boulevard in Brandon.
