Northside Elementary Teacher of the Year

Spikes received a BS in Elementary Education at the Mississippi University for Women and a Master’s in Elementary Education from Mississippi State University. She has taught third grade at Northside since 1998.
“I try to provide all students with opportunities to maximize their strengths and remediate their weaknesses,” she said. “Also, since students all have varied learning styles, I tailor my instruction in such a way as to compliment those learning styles.”
Said Northside Principal Joy Tyner: “Year after year, Mrs. Spikes accepts the responsibility of blending a classroom of special education students with regular education students. … Her desire to build children’s character sets her apart from the many who do not see that as part of their job.”
