Organizers of the 150th edition of the Mississippi State Fair say they are hoping that people who stayed away last year because of the economy will return this year.
The fair opens at 5 p.m. Wednesday. It continues through Oct. 18 at the Jackson fairgrounds.
Attendance has slipped every year since 2005. The number of visitors slipped to 608,810 - off 4 percent - in 2008.
Still, vendors aren’t giving up on the fair. About 60 vendors will line the fair’s midway with pizza, burgers, funnel cakes and
other foods.
